Trasitional House
Located in Takhmao district near Phnom Penh city, NHCC’s Transitional House provides full-time care for HIV-positive children who have fallen ill due to opportunistic infections, and can no longer be effectively cared for by their parents.
At the Transitional House, children receive full-time monitoring from health professionals to allow for the fastest recovery from opportunistic infections associated with HIV/AIDS, such as PCP (Pneumonia) and Tuberculosis. On average, the Transitional House treats 15 children in residence per month, with the aim of returning these children to their families as soon as they are healthy.
Transitional house also cares for the youngest children referred to NHCC. Most children under age two stay at the transitional house until they are transferred to the village.
In 2008, 50 children were re-integrated into their family homes.
The transition house also provides day care and after school care to the children of the widows working with “Quilters of Hope”.
