TRANSITIONAL HOUSE
Located in Takhmao district, NHCC’s Transitional House provides full-time care for HIV-positive children who have fallen ill due to opportunistic infections, and can no longer be effectively cared for by their parents. At the Transitional House, children receive full-time monitoring from health professionals to allow for the fastest recovery from opportunistic infections associated with HIV/AIDS, such as PCP (Pneumonia) and Tuberculosis. On average, the Transitional House treats 25 children in residence per month, with the aim of returning these children to their families as soon as they are healthy. In 2008, 50 children were re-integrated into their family homes.
In 2009/2010, NHCC will look to open a second transitional house in Takeo province to extend services in an area identified as having high demand and lack of medical service supply. The second transitional house will employ up to ten people and provide vital medical care to 25 children at a time, or up to 100 children per year.
