About Us
History
NHCC was founded in 2006 by John and Kathy Tucker, an American couple who have spent eleven years working with children with H.I.V. in Cambodia and the senior staff of the successful Maryknoll “Little Sprouts “program.
Prior to NHCC, John and Kathy founded and directed the ‘Little Sprouts’ program. ‘Little Sprouts’ was the first program to provide ARV treatment and residential care to Cambodian children infected with HIV/AIDS, and quickly grew to become the largest pediatric HIV/AIDS treatment program in Southeast Asia, treating over 400 children.
Recognizing the urgent need for an expanded assistance program to support the 4400 Cambodian children living with the disease, in 2006 John and Kathy founded New Hope for Cambodian Children (NHCC). NHCC provides care to 240 orphans and abandoned children with HIV at its residential facility know as “Our Village and also provides social support to over 1400 infected children and their affected families living in eight Cambodian provinces and the Capital, Phnom Penh..
NHCC currently maintains an office in Takhmao, Kandal province near Phnom Penh.. ‘Our Village,’ is located in a rural village in Kampong Speu
In 2006, the Clinton Foundation implemented a program to provide ARV medication to infected Cambodian children through the National Center for HIV/AIDS Dermatology and STD’s (NCHADS), under the Ministry of Health. This reduced the demands upon NHCC to provide medication for hundreds of children, allowing the organization to focus primarily on the provision of social, nutritional, and educational support. Today, over 1400 children receive food subsidies, free transport to their local health center, school uniforms, shoes and educational support through the ‘Outreach Program’, while another 240 receive full-time care and support at ‘Our Village’.
John and Kathy’s work in working with pediatric AIDS in Cambodia has been recognized in The Lancet International Journal, in Bill Clinton’s book ‘Giving’, and at international AIDS conferences throughout the world...
